The Grand Prix race this coming weekend has temporarily transformed downtown into something almost unrecognizable. Construction, fencing, and security are everywhere.

The race will be 147 laps (250 miles for the 250th). 50,000 people will be on the Mall inside the race track and will not be able to cross the track while the race is going on – so there are three pedestrian bridges being built over the race track.

The cars will reach speeds up to 200 miles per hour, so that manhole covers and anything else loose along the race track are being secured.

Cars at the library
MLK Library joined in the car craze last Saturday, with a show of vintage cars and Pinewood derby races where kids got to make their own racing cars.

Around the city
We saw a few nice sights that were outside the race preparations.
