We’ve seen lots of good and not so good things this past week. Starting with the good:
Union Station plaza
The plaza is reopened, with working fountains

Military concerts
The summer season of free military concerts has started.

Pride Month
Pride Month kicked off with a ceremony at the District Building.

Arlington National Cemetery
One of our editors volunteered to take photos for the Indiana Honor Flight (a free trip to D.C. for veterans), with a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington.

City animals continue to delight
Baby chipmunks and a wild turkey in Rock Creek Park:

The corpse flower blooms
The U.S. Botanic Garden has two corpse flowers blooming. As of yesterday, one had opened up and one was a day or two away.

The non-so-good

The Lincoln Memorial pool painted blue

State Fair construction
The State Fair construction has closed off the Mall. The fair will run from June 25-July 10 – free but with limited security entrances. The fair is run by Freedom 250, the partisan organization (events run by America 250 are the non-partisan events).

National Archives
The National Archives is having a festival that started with a fund-raiser last night and continues with two days of free family activities. It appears to be a non-partisan event but we are not sure. It’s amazing to see the effort to build a platform that runs for two blocks taking over Constitution Avenue – such a lot of construction for a three-day event.
