An interesting week

Yes, it’s green

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has turned green, proving that the algae will always win in hot humid D.C. summers.

Many park workers have been sent to try to vacuum up the algae before July 4th.

National Guard contingents are usually around the pool, with the green of their uniforms clashing with the green of the pool.

The Kennedy Center

Workers put up scaffolding to remove the lettering on the court-ordered deadline of June 12th.

The workers looked like they were going to remove the lettering as soon as the scaffolding was completed, but they didn’t – we later realized that they were going to put up a curtain around the scaffolding so that no one could see them removing the letters.

Representative Joyce Beatty came to see the removal of the lettering and to thank the gathered crowd for supporting the Kennedy Center. She’s an ex-officio member of the Kennedy Center board, and had filed a lawsuit to stop the renaming of the building, which resulted in the court’s order to take the name off by June 12th.

June 14th

June 14th would have been the usual weekend for D.C.’s Pride festival, but the organizers wisely pushed it to the next weekend as much of downtown was shut down for the UFC fight on the White House lawn.
