Another odd week

In these unsettled times, there continues to be a lot of reasons to celebrate in D.C. and a lot of things that are difficult.

Fiesta Asia – a great celebration

The annual celebration of Fiesta Asia took place last Saturday on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The painting of the Reflecting Pool

Painting the Reflecting Pool blue is viewed by many D.C. residents as inconsistent with the historic and aesthetic nature of the site. In addition, many of us who have watched previous attempts to cure the leaks and algae issues are skeptical that this quick fix will improve the basic problems of the pool, and probably have delays and cost overruns.

Rededication 250

Rededication 250 was a day-long event on the Mall on Sunday – part of the celebrations of the 250th birthday, but leaning primarily toward the idea of the U.S. being founded on Christianity rather than the principles of separation of church and state. It was a large calm crowd which stretched for 8 blocks waiting to get in, with a few demonstrators near the entrance.
