Trump got only 6.7% of the vote in D.C., but since D.C. governance is largely controlled by the Federal government, he could profoundly change many aspects of D.C. life. As photographers, one of the things we can do is to continue to document what is happening in the city in both good and bad times. So here are our photos from election night, during the period when the results were not yet final but trending toward a Trump victory.
Howard University
The main watch party was at Howard University, Harris’s alma mater. She had intended to come out to speak to the crowd, but as the results were trending badly but not yet final, the campaign decided to postpone any appearance.

Black Lives Matter Plaza
With the Ellipse and Pennsylvania Avenue by the White House fenced off, Black Lives Matter Plaza was the best spot for reporters to set up that offered a partial view of the White House.

Lafayette Square
Half of Lafayette Square was fenced off for Inauguration preparation, and security fencing had been put around the rest of the park but the gates were left open to allow people in. The crowd consisted primarily of some Jesus proselytizers with an electronic cross, Gaza protestors, and a few Trump supporters.
