We asked the community to show what they’ve been seeing this summer, and here are some wonderful photos of the season:

Mother Nature never disappoints. This flower and its reflection are a good reminder of how important it is to take the time to see beauty all around. A waterlily in the Garfield Park Conservatory (Chicago, IL).

It’s not often that the Universe decides to spontaneously give an amateur photographer a Vermeer moment, but I was ready to receive this unexpected gift. The inner-courtyard of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (Boston, MA).

It just amazes me the number of people that are out so early in the morning. The Lincoln Memorial at dawn is busy with runners, cyclists, photographers, tourists and locals enjoying a gorgeous start to the day.

I just returned a few weeks ago from a trip that I have been wanted to take for a while. After spending a few days in Lisbon, I went on a Mediterranean cruise that started in Lisbon and ended in Rome, visiting 9 beautiful ports in between. I took so many pictures, selecting just two was extremely difficult to do.
Lisbon did not disappoint! This street shot of Lisbon caught my eye because it captures the vibe of Lisbon.

With day trips to Nice and Monaco being the main attractions, Villefranche, on the other hand, surprised me when I was greeted with this beautiful view tendering from the cruise ship to the port in Villefranche.

During the summer months, I’ve been continuing to hone my bird photography skills. I captured this green heron shot at Constitution Gardens.

And I saw this great egret at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Va.

I recently started shooting B&W again, and I’ve really been enjoying experimenting with light and shadows.

Spent most of the summer in the D.C. area.
Loved the Pride parade and celebration back in June. These performers were scheduled to march at the end of the parade, and I caught them relaxing and biding their time.

Went to a Nationals game and caught these folks relaxing and having a drink. Noticed Luis Garcia, Jr. swinging his bat in the background.

One of my favorite parts of summer in DC is going every Sunday to the Malcolm X Park Drum Circle.

I didn’t get away much this summer, and it was all to visit with family. My husband and I did steal away to the New England coast for a quick 72 hours. I shot a bit, not a ton. We never got into our bathing suits, but did walk the beaches, and I came back with a few memories of the time. I’ve come to realize that if I didn’t take photographs, I probably wouldn’t remember half the things I do.

This August we were lucky to catch sunflowers in full bloom in Markham, Ontario (near Toronto).

I’ve always been a bit of a workaholic and enjoyed going into the office during off-peak hours. But more recently, I’ve found myself working seven days a week by tackling on as a market rep at two farmers markets over the weekends. That said, it’s been a challenge to time to pursue events that would make the inner shutterbug happy. So while reflecting on the daily routine, I arrived at a recent photo of what I wake up to in the morning. A whole lot of nature prior to getting ready for work. As long as I keep my GR on the nightstand, I think this could be the start of a series for changing seasons with hopes to capture the neighborhood fox.

After countless trips to various destinations in Pennsylvania, I finally made a visit to the PA State Capitol Building in Harrisonburg. Also known as the Palace of Art, the building draws inspiration from global architectural icons. From cobbled floors to soaring ceilings, every detail is breathtaking.

Every summer, I make sure to go to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens to see the lotus and waterlilies, and this year the herons were also magnificent.

The Navy Band puts on a concert each week by Pennsylvania Avenue, starting with a flag ceremony.

I recently got back into shooting with a Pentax 6×7. The experience has been interesting and the results are awesome (to me!)

Despite having the opportunity to do some long-distance traveling this summer, my favorite day over the last few months was spent just 40 miles from DC at a beautiful sunflower farm in Nokesville, VA.

My big events this summer were going to Japan for 2 weeks (where gold-flecked ice cream cones are a real thing) and then shooting birds—Osprey and Hummingbirds—in the DMV area. The Osprey is at Jug Bay in Maryland, the Hummingbird is at Green Springs Garden Park in Virginia.
