Celebrating the start of summer

D.C.’s been having a brutal heat wave, but there are two things that make us happy about the start of summer – celebrating the solstice at the Smithsonian, and the ice cream trucks everywhere.

Smithsonian Solstice Saturday

Last Saturday, the Smithsonian Museums celebrated the summer solstice for the sixth year, with lots of special activities and the museums open until late into the night. Despite the heat, the crowds were large and enthusiastic.

Ice Cream

If you are around the Mall, there’s always ice cream nearby.

And if you drop your ice cream, you’ll make a squirrel very happy.
