The main tourist season is just about to start, and we’ve been watching the city get ready for it.
Cleaning the Reflecting Pool
The annual draining and cleaning of the Reflecting Pool happens just before the spring tourist season starts.
Transportation
Many different transportation options are ready to go.
Food
Food trucks are all around the Mall.
Trash
There are lots of trash and recycling receptacles set up.
But it is tough to keep up with the volume of trash.
Squirrels sometimes step in to help with the trash.
Safety
Helicopters keep the skies safe.
Keeping the government open
We’re hoping that our legislators pass funding in time to keep the government open – we acutely remember seeing the local memorials and museums closed during a past government shutdown.
School groups
It’s not yet the height of spring trips for schools, but a fair number of school groups can already be spotted at the museums and memorials.
