Different times and places

This May, there are many chances to get transported to different places and eras without having to actually leave D.C.

Last weekend, the annual Revolutionary War reenactment took place at Mount Vernon. And for a taste of foreign lands, many embassies had open houses last Saturday and others will be open this coming Saturday.

Revolutionary War Weekend

The Revolutionary War is reenacted on a May weekend each year at Mount Vernon. There were large encampments, including 21 Continental regiments and 19 British brigades.

Embassy Open Houses

A variety of embassies held open houses last Saturday. The EU embassies will hold open houses tomorrow.

This year, we went to all the embassies on International Drive on Saturday.

At the Embassy of Jordan, we were entertained by a troop of bagpipers (we found out that bagpipes had originated in the Middle East BCE.)

EU Open Houses

The EU Open Houses take place tomorrow. While we don’t know specifically what each embassy will show, here’s some of what we’ve seen in past years:

More information about the embassy open houses can be found on the Events D.C. site. It’s always very crowded, so we recommend going early to your favorites.
