F Street Holiday Market

It’s Black Friday, but instead of going to the madness of big-box stores, come to the charm of the F Street Holiday Market. It’s in front of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and right outside a Metro stop, so no need to look for parking in the holiday crush.

The F Street Holiday Market is in its 15th year, sponsored by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District. Along with shopping, there’s a place to sit and listen to several performances each day.

The market is open 12-8 every day through December 23. There are lots of things to buy – gifts for others and some for yourself. There are 60 different booths, and 150 vendors – most vendors are only there for a week or two, so it is worth going several times to see what is new. The vendors are regional artisans, selected both for the quality of their goods and their ethical production methods.

There are a few giant creatures walking around who are happy to greet people and pose for photos.

Donuts or Churros?

The big question to ask yourself before going is whether you are a donuts person or a churros person. Donuts are on the 7th St. end and churros (and empanadas) are on the 9th St. end. The smells from both stands fill the surrounding blocks, making them totally irresistible.

Wishing you joy in the post-Thanksgiving haze.
